birds of a feather

June 23, 2012

you rouse me with milky tea and toast, delicate birds perched upon the bone white china
my hair a feathery nest of chestnut dressing the pillow, our linens rumpled and warm
it’s early, the heady salt-damp of your morning ramble still blooming on your balmy skin
my body soft and languid, the sharp edges of the room blurry, slowly coming into focus
as the light reveals us to one another, makes us flesh, magnolia and moss, terra nova

I sit at home
In our room
By our bed
Gazing at your pillow.
